This
segment is the first of many. These
segments will be reviews and recommendations of music that I, tF Audyo, have
been listening to recently. With these
articles, I will be posting my top five picks from the album, along with audio
samples (barring I can get it set up correctly). These reviews will analyze music of ranging
styles as well as date of release. It's
simply a review of what I've been listening to lately, not necessarily the
newest thing out.
For this debut segment, I'll
be reviewing the Showdown's latest release "Back Breaker", which was released
on August 19th, 2008, and Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight", a
Spring 2007 release.
"Back
Breaker" is the Showdown's third studio album.
Over time, this band keeps getting better and better. These Nashville natives started out as any
other metalcore band. It was solid with
its own heart and soul invested within it.
Their sophomore release, "Temptation Come My Way", revealed a whole new
sound. It was a driving style of
Southern metal. The album contained the
same soul and spirit involved with their previous work. This new album is just a continuation of
their evolution. The Southern elements
are still there, but it's gone towards a more driving "warrior"-esque metal. The interesting part of this album is the use
of a Greek mythology motif for the song titles.
However, it does fit the album well with their new angle of metal.
My top 5 picks from this album are as follows: 1. "Cerberus - The
Hellhound Awaits"
2. "Aries
- I Am Vengeance"
3. "Odysseus
- A Song of Hope"
4. "Achilles
- The Backbreaker"
5. "Medea
- One Foot In Hell"
Linkin
Park's latest studio release "Minutes to Midnight" is also an intriguing choice
as well. However, it is for very
different reasons. In fact, I was
hesitant at purchasing this album for a long time. The first few singles irked me a bit since it
wasn't what I was expecting from Linkin Park.
However, now that I've listened to the more recent batch of singles from
this album, I'm content to say that this is a good album. I doubt that most of the hardcore fans of
Linkin Park would agree with me on that note.
This album differs from their initial debut on "Hybrid Theory" as a
blend of rap/hip-hop, trance, and hard rock.
This album shows a whole new side as well as a wide arrange of
capabilities from this group of guys.
Some songs show their roots and beginnings while others show a new
direction and color of things to come.
My top 5 picks from this album are as follows: 1. "Given Up"
